I - PLACE AND DATE

The VIth. Rencontres de Moriond session in Mesoscopic Physics will be held in La Thuile from Saturday, March 8th to Saturday, March 15th 2008. La Thuile is a pleasant winter sport resort located in the Italian Alps, at 1450 m alt., about 120 km from Geneva . The nearest international airport are Geneva (Switzerland)and Milan (Italy). If you arrive in Geneva International Airport, do not forget that you (especially citizens from Russia) may need a transit visa, coming through Switzerland to Italy.

II - PURPOSE

The 2008 session will focus on the rapidly developing fields of charge and spin transport in graphene and two-dimensionnal systems, quantum dots, quantum wires, carbon nanotubes, molecules, superconducting and ferromagnetic hybrid structures and dots. Special emphasize will be put on the dynamical properties in relation with quantum-preparation, -manipulation, -coherence and -detection of simple systems.

III - CONTRIBUTIONS

Due to limited format of the meeting, only a restricted number of oral contributions have been accepted.  A large time will be devoted to poster sessions as it was the tradition in former meetings. Poster dimension is portrait-A0 (120x80cm)

There will no proceedings of the conference, but the speakers are kindly asked to bring a pdf copy of their slides to be posted on the web site after the conference.

IV - PRACTICAL ORGANIZATION

1. Conference Dates :

The meeting will begin on Saturday, March 8th, 2008 at 18 h 00 and will end on Saturday, March 15th, at 12 h 30.

2. Conference Facilities :

The following equipment will be available : a laptop computer, a video-projector for computer and an overhead projector for plastic transparencies presentations. Speakers can bring their presentation on their laptop or (preferably) on an USB key.
Limited internet connections will be available from the hotel. In particular, a wireless hub will be installed.

Electric plug : bring your adaptator to the italian format with 2 pins  : 4mm diameter and 19mm inter-pin distance. 

3. Conference Fee :

The conference fee for participants is 350 Euros. It will cover the cost of all social events and organizing matters.

In this case, the transfer should clearly indicate your name to identify the payment. The corresponding voucher should imperatively be handed to the Moriond secretary at the conference site.

On the conference site : by personal checks or travellers' checks in Euros or US dollars to "Rencontres de Moriond", handed to the conference secretary upon your arrival or within the first 2 days of the workshop. Please avoid cash payment if possible. Credit cards are not accepted to pay for the fees, but they are accepted to pay for the hotel bill (see below).

4. Accommodations :

Housing will be in Hotel Planibel, La Thuile and surrounding Hotels. Meals will be served in this hotel for all participants.
The hotel bill shall be paid directly to the hotel. Major credit card payment (for the hotel accommodation) can be accepted.
The total cost (full board) will amount to 539 Euros (double occupancy).
It will be difficult to obtain single rooms. Only a few will be available at an additional cost of 140 Euros.

For accompanying members, the costs are as follows :
- 539 Euros per adult
- 405 Euros per child (6-8 years old)
- 270 Euros per child (3-5 years old)

Important notice:
Hotel reservations are made for the whole session : i.e. from the evening of Saturday, March 8th to the morning of Saturday, March 15th (including lunch before departure of the conference bus to Geneva). Please note that the total cost of the meeting will not be reduced even in the case of partial attendance.
Cancellation of hotel reservations should be made before February 15th, 2008. After this date, the hotel will charge us for the entire cost and we will have to ask the participants who cancel their attendance later to pay for the total accommodation cost as listed above.

Please note that reservations are compulsory for TGV trains.

If you arrive by train at Geneva Central Station, please take the train to the airport (Swiss currency required). Trains depart
approximately every 15 minutes (7min travel time). The arrival terminal where you will find the bus is a short walk from the train station (5 minutes).

2. From Geneva Airport to La Thuile :

a) Conference buses :
Departure is from Geneva Airport (International Sector).
MEETING POINT: At the arrival level at the desk Accueil France International (International Sector of Geneva Airport - Tourism Information). The driver (with the 'Rencontres de Moriond' Poster) will meet you there 15 minutes before departure.

Departure from Geneva International airport on Saturday March 8th is scheduled at ** NEW ** 12:30, 13:30, 14:00, 14:30 and 15:30 .

Return Conference buses are scheduled to leave La Thuile on Saturday, March 15th at 12:30 sharp (after lunch) and will reach Geneva airport and then CERN (if requested) around 17:00, depending on the traffic.

3. From Turin or Milan Malpensa Airport to La Thuile

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, a shuttle service operates; on the other days, the same company runs essentially taxis.
Information can be obtained at : "ATS"

In past experience, the service is quite smooth and fast, but depends on local contractors. It may happen that one demand is initially accepted, and after a couple of days canceled because no local contractor could be found. Please make sure that you get a final and firm confirmation (if possible with a local contact info) before counting on it.

4. By car

La Thuile can be reached by car, by the A40 highway to St Gervais, then by E25 to Chamonix, Courmayeur and Pré Saint Didier and then turn to the right in the direction of La Thuile via Strata Stratale Valle d'Aosta (10 km).
If chains are necessary, the sooner you put them on, the better.
